Domino (R)

Release Date: October 14th, 2005 by New Line Cinema.
The Cast: Keira Knightley, Mickey Rourke, Edgar Ramirez, Lucy Liu, Mena Suvari, Christopher Walken.
Directed by Tony Scott.

BASIC PREMISE: After modeling, Domino Harvey (Knightley) becomes a bounty-hunter. Loosely based on a true story.

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: This fast-paced film is full of energy and a cool visual style. Keira Knightley is perfectly typecast as the super-aggressive Domino Harvey. She joins Ed (Rourke) and Choco (Ramirez) to round out the bounty-hunter trio. SheThere are plenty of thrilling action sequences and stunts from start to finish. The plot is not as linear as one might expect—most of it is told in flashback, but it is still a lot of fun. The soundtrack is hip and just as loud as everything else on the screen. The dialogue is full of wit and funny one-liners. If only the script would have allowed for more character development rather than action, it would have been much more engaging and suspenseful. However, the visual effects and fast-paced editing are stylish enough to make this a mildly entertaining film.

SPIRITUAL VALUE: Unfortunately, This is not an in-depth, moving, or insightful character study of Domino Harvey—that will probably be saved for a documentary about her, if there will ever be one.

INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: Not enough character development.

NUMBER OF TIMES I CHECKED MY WATCH: 2

THE BOTTOM LINE: This film is full of energy and visual style, but could have been much more memorable and engaging with more character development. Nonetheless, by the end of the film, it is still an entertaining, fun ride.
