Release Date: October 21st, 2005 (NYC-Village East Cinemas) by First Look Pictures.

Narrated by Oprah Winfrey.

BASIC PREMISE: A documentary about Emmanuel, a man from Ghana who was born with a deformed right leg, who begins a quest to give hope and support other disabled people in Ghana and around the world.

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah is full of so much charisma and warmth. It is horrifying to watch how the disabled are treated with such disrespect by the government in Ghana. Emmanuel makes it very clear from the very beginning that he does not want to lead the normal life of a disabled person by begging on the street—he wants to make a difference! His journey is very exciting as he travels to the U.S. to undergo an operation so that doctors can attach a prosthetic leg on him. Once he gets used to the leg, he actively participates in sports such as running and bicycle-riding. When he comes back to Ghana, he truly makes amazes everyone, but their amazement is not enough: he wants the country to adapt its laws to be more respectful of disabled people, i.e. by having handicap-accessible public areas. Given how much struggle he had to overcome to reach his level of success, this film is in many ways like an epic story. It is also worth mentioning that the scenery of Ghana is breathtakingly beautiful. On top of that, Oprah Winfrey’s voice-over is full of emotion and conviction.

SPIRITUAL VALUE: It is very uplifting and inspiring that Emmanuel overcomes his hardships and stereotypes with strength of mind and body. His courage and strong will to be an active part of society gives a lot of hope to anyone who has ever felt neglected or useless in any way. He is a truly wonderful, kind, and generous human being who spreads his love of humanity by trying to make a very important social change in his country. At the same time, he manages to inspire everyone around the world. The musical score is truly enhances the mood of the film and even make you generate a few tears of joy.

INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: None.
