Release Date: July 8th, 2005, by Twentieth Century Fox.
The Cast: Ioan Gruffudd,Jessica Alba,Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon
Directed by Tim Story.
BASIC PREMISE: Four astronauts develop different superpowers and use their powers to fight against a scientist with evil plans.
ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: There are many amazing, impressive special effects throughout this exciting summer blockbuster. The Fantastic Four use their superpowers very often; each has a unique, distinctive power. Sue Storm (Alba) can turn invisible and has a force that can push people and objects away. Ben Grimm (Chiklis) is all solid muscle and looks like The Hulk in red. Johnny Storm (Evans) has fire power. Then there is Reed Richards (Gruffudd) who can stretch his body to any length. The most hilarious character is Ben Grimm, who tries to eat with a metal fork but can barely pick it up with his big fingers and he also struggles to call his wife at a payphone. The other members of the Fantastic Four also have their moments, but Grimm is the most developed and fun character to watch. The plot is the typical good vs. evil scenario but it is a lot of fun thanks to the dazzling special effects, the energetic cast, and the occasional humor that blends very well with the action.
SPIRITUAL VALUE: There is not much to think about except that the superheroes do not lie to the public about their real identity like Spiderman or Superman. Society understands and accepts them especially for their heroic acts—one of which includes Grimm saving a suicidal man from jumping to his death.
INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: As long as you suspend your disbelief, there is none.
