BASIC PREMISE: At the end of The Little Red Riding Hood story , each character gives their side of the story while facing criminal charges.
ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: Hoodwinked not only uses amazing CGI effects, but also manages to be incredibly funny. The inventive plot begins at the end of The Little Red Riding Hood as the granny (Close), Red (Hathaway), the Woodsman (Belushi), and the Wolf (Warburton) each face charges of stealing recipes. Meanwhile, detective Nicky Flippers (Stiers) interrogates while the Three Little Pigs take notes as police officers. As whacky as this premise initially sounds, it works quite well thanks to a consistently witty and inventive script. The funniest character happens to be Twitchy (Edwards), a squirrel that talks super fast and claims that it doesn’t drink coffee. Also quite memorable is the Schnitzel Man who sings a hilarious song praising schnitzel. There are so many jokes and puns that if you look away for a second, you’ll miss one just like in Shrek . Even adults will be thoroughly entertained by every scene. Despite a derivative plot, it does have a few hilarious surprises regarding each of the four suspects—especially granny. You’ll never guess what secret hobby she’s been hiding all along. It doesn’t really matter which character is ultimately the real culprit, but at least the investigation itself is a whole lot of non-stop, wildly imaginative fun for both young and old.
