Release Date: May 27th (NYC- Landmark Sunshine), by Magnolia Pictures. BASIC PREMISE: A documentary about a group of bowlers who discuss their struggle in the world of professional bowling and try to be part of the PBA Championship. ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: There aren't enough documentaries about bowling. There are many about baseball and basketball, but bowling is often forgotten. Therefore, it is refreshing to watch a documentary all about bowling and its love--and its business. The professional bowlers include Pete Weber and Wayne Webb. Both are charismatic and clearly love the sport. It's a pity that they don't get paid enough. Even the final winning check in the PBA Championship is just half a million dollars, not nearly the amount made by professional basketball players. Once the motivator comes onto the screen, then the film gets very entertaining----he is a witty guy and brings a lot of humor to a sport that has gone stale. SPIRITUAL VALUE: There is a lot of insight and honesty about bowling. The bowlers admit that bowling has lost its fame as a sport--especially financially. Many people consider it to be a blue-collar sport. Why? Because nothing has really changes about the sport since it all started. When people don't see change, they get bored. Unfortunately, for those who have already been bored by the sport, this documentary won't make them fall in love with it. But those who are on the borderline or who already love it, will learn a lot of the difficult life of bowlers. INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: None. NUMBER OF TIMES I CHECKED MY WATCH: 2 THE BOTTOM LINE: An insightful documentary about an all-too forgotten sport. A must-see for all fans of bowling!
