BASIC PREMISE: IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) must capture a mysterious object from a sinister man named Owen (Hoffman).
ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: Mission: Impossible III has plenty of action and thrills to kick off the movie season into full gear. You will be thoroughly engaged from the intense opening scene to the very last. This time around, Ethan Hunt’s mission, which he does choose to accept, is to find a mysterious object called the “Rabbit’s Foot” from the hands of Owen (Hoffman). Just like in the first two films, Ethan uses any means necessary to succeed in this mission by land, by sea and by air with all the expected cool gadgets. In one of the most nail-biting scenes, he goes incognito with a specially-designed facial mask and must wait until the right time to speak into the voice adaptor or else he will get caught. Throughout the mission, just like any hero, he must also save his wife (Monaghan) who is held kidnapped by Owen. Once again, Tom Cruise proves to be a highly entertaining leading man who delivers his lines with plenty of slickness. Fortunately, director/co-writer J.J. Abrams includes enough surprises and twists to the plot which keep you at the edge of your seat—especially while trying to figure out who has a hidden agenda. Abrams even includes some well-needed comic relief during one of the many chase sequences. He keeps the pace moving fast with dazzling special effects so that not a single scene drags from start to finish.
SPIRITUAL VALUE: None is required or desired.
INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: None, as long as you suspend your disbelief.
