The Good

Summer Story-A simple, sweet story about youthful love with many surprisingly tender and moving moments. Your heart will soar as you watch the scenes with the two young leads, played to perfection by the adorable Kosta Kaplan and the beautiful Aya Steinovitz. Before you plan on bringing your young child to see this movie, be aware that it does include a brief yet distracting scene with nudity toward the end.

Joy-Certainly not an easy film to sit through, but very well-directed by Julie Schles and Sigalit Fuchs resonates plenty of charm as Joy. The overall style and humor is very similar to that of Todd Solondz's work such as Happiness and Welcome to the Dollhouse . Offbeat, awkward, and even depressing, but ultimately quite haunting.

Out of Sight-Not to be confused with the George Clooney film of the same title, this subtly powerful film tackles many difficult themes without being too preachy. The flashbacks seem odd and confusing at first, with the present shot in washed-out colors while the past is bright and colorful. Tali Sharon is wonderful as Ya'ara. Also, there's exquisite cinematography and a beautiful musical score.

Metallic Blues-Essentially, this is a buddy comedy with a thin plot, but manages to be both funny, warm and moving thanks to an excellent script. Both Moshe Igvy and Avi Kushnir play off of eachother very well. It's refreshing to come across such a movie that never feels preachy, contrived, or awkward.

The So/So

Janem,Janem-Occasionally humorous, but the messy plot fails to be engaging. Too many sub-plots with not enough warmth, chemistry, or imagination. The third act seems shocking and very contrived--although the song "Janem, Janem" does sound good, but it only shows up at the end. The musical score feels awkwardly like from a horror film.

...and the Ugly

Atash/Thirst-Slow-pace, often boring plot with very little action and the characters are barely interesting. Poorly-shot and its running time of 111 minutes overstays its welcome by at least 20 minutes. Overall, it feels like a bad student film or just a first film from an inexperienced director.
