Release Date: July 15,2005 by New Line Cinema.
The Cast: Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Christopher Walken.
BASIC PREMISE: Two single guys (Wilson and Vaughn) crash weddings for fun until one of them falls for a beautiful, wealthy girl (McAdams).
ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: As a comedy this movie succeeds very well because it is simply laugh-out-loud funny. There are a few old, recycled jokes that fall flat but many of them work especially because they are delivered by actors who have impeccable comic timing. Vince Vaughn is always a hilarious and unpredictable to watch, while Owen Wilson plays his usual goofy role. Then there's the nudity and strong sexual content that helps give the R-rating, but makes the movie almost as gutsy as the sexy comedies of the 80's like Fast Times at Ridgemont High--nothing too excessive, though. In his few scenes, Christopher Walken steals the show as expected and there is a surprising cameo by another actor. The script definitely does not aim for any Oscars, especially because the plot is so outrageous. The romance is contrived and there is no real chemistry between any of the appealing actors. Also, the pacing of the movie drags a little near the end. However, with so much energy, humor, and just plain fun it is difficult to resist this very entertaining summer movie.
SPIRITUAL VALUE: There is not much to think about, which is a good thing in this case--as long as you don't expect to think and just get prepared for a wild, fun ride through a lot of hilarious comedy.
INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: None, as long as you check your brain at the door.
NUMBER OF TIMES I CHECKED MY WATCH: 2 (near the end)
THE BOTTOM LINE: A hilarious laugh riot with a lot of comedic energy from its actors and it is the first great comedy of the year that is re-watchable. A must see for fans of Old School!
