BASIC PREMISE: After the government introduces a “cure” which would turn mutants back to human form, Charles Xavier (Stewart) and his team of X-Men battle Magneto (McKellen) and his Brotherhood team of evil mutants.

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: Fans of the first two X-Men films should be pleased to know that this final film in the trilogy has plenty of pulsating action and dazzling special effects. Each mutant gets a chance to shine by using their superpowers when necessary. The first act establishes the new Department of Mutant Affairs, with Dr. Hank McCoy (Grammer) as its blue-colored mutant Secretary—a.k.a. the Beast. As usual, Mystique (Stamos) morphs into different people while being captured early on. Dr. Jean Grey (Janssen), a.k.a. Phoenix, becomes possessed by the Dark Phoenix, which takes over her mind and brings out rage within her—along with lust as well. It’s not worth spoiling the rest of the plot after that point because it gets slightly more dramatic and even surprising at times. The addition of new mutants besides Beast includes Juggernaut (Jones), Angel (Foster), and Kitty (Page) who all have unique superpowers. Screenwriters Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn occasionally include some well-needed comic relief in the script. Fortunately, director Brett Ratner keeps the pace moving fast with many exciting action sequences with eye-popping visual effects that will keep fans consistently entertained. Be sure to stay after the end credits for an additional scene.

SPIRITUAL VALUE: None is required or desired.

INSULT TO YOUR INTELLIGENCE: None, as long as you suspend your disbelief.
